In this presentation he will share what you can discover about your ancestors from land records.
Land and property research can reveal so much about how and where our ancestors lived and worked. Other family information such as the name of a spouse, heirs, other relatives, or neighbors can be found in land records. Women of Peace and Preparedness
Presented by Dr. Lisa Mastrangelo in the Library's Lower Level Meeting Room.While much attention has been paid to the role of American women in World War II, much less is known about their participation in World War I. And yet, on the eve of US involvement in the Great War, American women were active in two different movements: the peace movement and the preparedness movement. Throughout both of these movements, women were labeled as "maternal" and "protective." This presentation details the two movements, as well as the language of motherhood that was used for, by, and against the women as they fought for their causes.
Dr. Lisa Mastrangelo is an Associate Professor of English and Director of Composition at Centenary University in Hackettstown, NJ.

Did you know that you can access Ancestry LE for free when you're in the library? This program will introduce you to Ancestry.com and My Heritage. Ancestry LE has over 16 billion records to help you begin your genealogy search, including the U.S. Federal Census from 1790-1940. Come learn how to use the census, Ancestry.com and My Heritage to start researching your own family tree.

Join us for our 2nd Annual Foreign Cinema Series, featuring eight entertaining and thought-provoking films from Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia. These movies screen at 7pm on the second Wednesday of each month, four in the spring and four in the fall. This month’s film will be Félicité from Congo, featuring the streets and music of Kinshasa; other movies this spring include The Divine Order (Switzerland; April 11); Pop Aye (Thailand; May 9); and Ice Mother (Czech Republic; June 13.) Morristown & Morris Twp. Library is starting a Chess Club in 2018! Join us for chess on the third Thursday of the month starting in January 2018 and running through June. The group will meet from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. upstairs in the F.M. Kirby Gallery. We will enjoy friendly, non-competitive, short games of chess between players of all skill levels. Improve your game, make new friends and enjoy playing chess! Players of all ages are welcome to play as long as they know the rules. Please bring your own chess board, pieces, and time clock. Recapture Family Images: A One Day Scanning Event
Do you have special family photographs that you need scanned? The library's North Jersey History and Genealogy Center will scan your photos, negatives, or 35 mm slides in high resolution — for free! Space limited.Using our high quality photo and slide scanner, we will scan your photos on the spot and transfer them to your USB drive. Also, if you have faded color photos, we will do our best to restore them to their original color. Preserve your family photos and turn your photos, negatives or slides into printable image files. Limit: 7 scans per person. Please bring a USB drive to your scanning session.

This program is for beginners, covering basic methods and terms. Stories of the Women of Migration
Presented by Dr. Linda Epps. The twentieth century fostered a new awakening among members of the African American community. They realized that an alternative to living in the Jim Crow South was available, and their thoughts turned north, which was still viewed as The Promised Land. Their migration north, known as the Great Migration, made race a national issue, an integral part of politics, social thought, and organization of ordinary life in the United States. The Great Migration was the first step in the full nationalization of African Americans. Come hear the migration stories of women who might have scrubbed floors, provided care for children or elderly parents, toiled in a sweat shop, or sewed sleeves in shirts or dresses.
