Fake News

Fake News: All the News That's Fit to Print, But is it Always?

Thursday April 12, 2018
7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
In order to become more information literate, which is defined as a set of abilities requiring individuals to "recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information," we need to learn criteria for evaluating websites, specifically news sources, for authenticity. We will look at different news sources which we will analyze with various evaluation techniques. We can all be fooled by fake news, come learn how to become a better news consumer.

Our presenters:  Debra Gottsleben, SMLS, has been a school librarian at Morristown High School since 2004.  She is also an adjunct professor in the Seton Hall School of Education & Human Services Department where she teaches in the school librarian & technology director certification program. Anne Piascik, SMLS, has taught in the Morris School District for 13 years at both the Alfred Vail Elementary School and Morristown High School. Ms. Gottsleben and Ms. Piascik enjoy empowering people by teaching them the skills they need to be information literate.

Program is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
